Every now and then I don't want the upgrade. I don't need the boosted, increased, now with extra, more. Especially if it's to justify the price tag.
The Huntington Estate 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is their standard Cab Sauv but to me it is head and shoulders above the big brother 'Block Three'.
The colour is a more caramel or honeyed purple.
The aroma gives stewed prunes, cola, tobacco leaves and charcoal.
The palate is richer and heavier than Block Three offering greater fruit weight. Molasses, chary oak and eucalyptus back up the fruit which I would expect from a good aged Cabernet.
The tannins dry things out beautifully. They are as powdery as licking the top of a flour dusted bread roll and evenly coat the tongue all the way to the back.
I find this wine much more balanced and way more enjoyable than it's bigger brother. Even sweeter still is the fact that you can pick up two bottles and still get change for the price.
